The Frosh Soccer Team Has An Outstanding Year
By Dean Downing and Kyle Unruh

The season for the Jesuit freshman soccer team was rather easy.  They were coached by Leslie Hargrove and Carlos Brusell. The team was made up of twenty players, only three who didn't play on a competitive team. They rolled by teams with scores of 6-0, 8-1, and even 13-0. They only had two challenging games in league. Those were against Granite Bay.

The first time they played G.B. they tied them 2-2. The Marauders were winning 2-0 at the end of the first half, but got cocky in the second half and let in two goals. In their second meeting the game was very intense. Once again at the end of the first half the score was 2-0. Then Granite Bay's star forward used his speed to get by the defense and score. This time Jesuit knew they couldn't let G.B. tie them again. Then Jesuit scored one more with five minutes left. The final score was 3-1. Not including their final few games in league, they outscored their opponents 108-9.

Then they attended the Amijo HS tournament. This was a JV tournament, so it was more of a challenge for this unbelievable frosh team. They beat Will C. Wood 6-0. After that they came back after trailing Dixon 2-0, they came back to win 3-2. Then they tied Ponderosa 1-1. From there they went to the semi-finals and had their first loss to Bella Vista 2-1. You have to keep in mind that this is a frosh team in a JV tournament.

Then after they beat Del Campo in the semi-finals in the playoffs they went on to play Bella Vista, who came off a big win against Granite Bay, in the championship. In the first ten seconds John Gianini scored of a pass by Justin Delacruz which set the tone for the game. The opposing team could believe it, but they watched the Marauders jog back with smiles on their faces. Then Justin Delacruz megged (when the ball goes between a players legs) the keeper. After that BV scored a goal. The goal should not have counted because David Rivera was in the goal and the ball bounced off his chest. The ball wasn't in the goal. The only thing in the goal was Rivera. To be a goal the ball must completely cross the goal line. Then the Marauders picked it up because they could lose to BV after they had beaten them in league 6-0 and 11-2. Then Jesuit was awarded a Penalty Kick, which was put in by Dean Downing. Then to finish things off Jon Gianini added one more to the scoreboard. The final score was 4-1.

Jesuit was named the first team to win the Men's Alliance League. That is a new league that was created for all the freshman teams in the area to compete in.
