 ABOUT THE MOVIE

"40-min euro-western explores character choices against the backdrop of striped mountains and six-shooters."

From young experimental director Paul Blair comes a story about choice and consequence, fate and luck.  Funded independently and researched for over a year, "Bandit" is a short with the scale as wide as the West itself.  In the visual style of 60's Italian Westerns, this short intertwines two adjacent stories... one a tale of discovery, the other of betrayal.

Surrounded by piles of bodies and a noose around his neck, Leonard wakes up with no memory of the events that led up to the massacre that surrounds him. Choosing to help rather than abandon the men around him, Leonard meets a mysterious cast of characters that have their own agendas: some dangerous, some friendly, and some both.  A parallel tale reveals Leonard's past, and the two merge in the end to reveal just how The Mustachioed Bandit Meets His End.
 


 ABOUT THE LOCATION
Filmed on the rim of Zion National Park, Utah's breathtaking canyons serve as a backdrop to this tale.  Filmed on-location at movie sets used by Clint Eastwood's The Outlaw Josey Wales and TV's Gunsmoke, "Bandit" is a refreshing alternative to the typical LA Apartment Drama.

LEONARD: 20s-30s Caucasian male: lone rider with mysterious past
...IS THE LEAD PROTAGONIST. A WELL-MEANING BUT WEAK-WILLED MAN, HIS LUCK HAS LEFT HIM THE CRUEL LEADER OF THE WEST'S CRUELEST GANG. KATE'S PLAN FOR THE TWO OF THEM TO LEAVE TOWN TURNS HIS GANG AGAINST HIM, AND A SECOND CHANCE SHOWS US THAT LEONARD IS CAPABLE OF MAKING TOUGH CHOICES TO DO THE RIGHT THING, BUT HIS INJURY MAY NOT LEAVE HIM WITH ENOUGH TIME TO DO IT.

GEORGE: 30s-50s Caucasian or Hispanic male: clever and ruthless gang boss
...IS THE LEAD ANTAGONIST. AN OPPORTUNIST WHOSE PATH HAD NOT LONG AGO CROSSED LEONARD'S, HE HAS RETURNED TO VISIT HIS OLD GANG TO CLAIM HIS SHARE OF THEIR EARNINGS. HIS EDUCATION HAS MADE HIM A DANGEROUS VILLAIN, AND HE USES HIS WIT TO TURN LEONARD'S OWN GANG AGAINST HIM. HIS MISSION TO GET HIS MONEY TURNS AWRY WHEN LEONARD PROVES MORE RESOURCEFUL THAN ANTICIPATED.

RICH: 20s Caucasian male: likable, revenge-seeking youth
...IS A SUPPORTING PROTAGONIST. MORE NAIVE THAN THE REST, RICH WANTS REVENGE AGAINST THE MAN WHO KILLED HIS FAMILY. HIS DECISION TO KILL IS REFLEXIVE, AND HE IS FORCED TO QUESTION IT WHEN HE REALIZES JUST WHO HE WILL HAVE TO KILL. HIS DECISION WILL ULTIMATELY PUT HIM ON EITHER A PATH TO VIOLENCE OR FORGIVENESS.

KATE: 20s-30s Caucasian or Hispanic female: manipulative girlfriend with ambitious plan
...IS A SUPPORTING PROTAGONIST. HER INTENSIONS ARE MAINLY SELFISH, BUT HER LUST FOR LEONARD, AND HER COAXING AND MANIPULATION MAY BE JUST THE THING TO SAVE LEONARD FROM HIMSELF.

NO-ARMED MAN: 40s+ Caucasian or Hispanic male (arms OK): talkative hermit
...IS A SUPPORTING PROTAGONIST. HE HAS BEEN SCARRED, QUITE LITERALLY, BY VIOLENCE IN HIS PAST, AND THE RESULT IS A CALM SENSE OF ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORLD AROUND HIM.
